Purchasing a birthday cake in Ketchikan?

Is there a place in Ketchikan that I can buy a Birthday cake for my DDs birthday next week?. She will be 7 that day and there is a group of 20 of traveling and we wanted a bigger cake than the ship is going to give us.

I don't know what cruise line you're travelling with, but I just can't imagine that the ship would not do something to insure that you have the kind of Birthday cake you need to celebrate your daughter's Birthday....even if they charge for it.

Most of the ships have some very talented galley crew when it comes to doing pastries and decorations for food....I would think that doing a Birthday Cake would be 'child's play' for them.

But, if it is as you say and they won't, I would Google bakeries in Ketchikan...or track one down through the Chamber of Commerce or somethng like that and order the cake to be delivered to your cabin...or picked up by you...when you arrive.

There's a Ketchikan resident who sometimes posts here, so hopefully he'll spot this thread.

I'm not sure if there's any bakery in Ketchikan, but there's a Walmart and the grocery store Alaska and Proud, which should do cakes. I'm betting you could call ahead and have a special cake done, then call a cab to pick it up and bring it to the ship.

I don't believe the Ketchikan Walmart is a supercenter??? Safeway would have a bakery.

There are two grocery stores here that can provide birthday cakes.

Safeway has the typical themed cakes for children- Disney characters, and the like. Phone number is 907-225-9880. A & P (stands for Alaskan and Proud- not affiliated with the A&Ps down south) has cakes that are better quality but when we ordered one last week for a going away party- they didn't have an artist on staff. 907-225-1279.

A&P would be your best bet for a birthday cake. Second choice would be Safeway. It's also closer to the cruise ship dock.
